Minnesota Health Plan Caucus

About

About

Launched by nearly 60 legislators from both the Senate and House, the Minnesota Health Plan Caucus aims to pass legislation to provide healthcare to all Minnesotans. The Minnesota Health Plan, a bill introduced by Senator John Marty, is the focus of this caucus, and would provide a single, statewide plan to cover all Minnesota residents for all their medical needs. Enacting the bill will eradicate the existing insurance system, which is costly and leaves many Minnesota residents uninsured or paying high premiums for necessary care. The new system would be streamlined, removing the need for complex application forms, copays and other out-of-pocket expenses, and would prevent insurance companies from interfering with medical decision-making. This is healthcare funded by Minnesotans for Minnesotans.

“The work that we’re doing and the reason we decided to form this caucus is because there has been a tremendous amount of grassroots organizing done by citizen groups and advocacy groups in Minnesota to build up education and awareness about the Minnesota Health Plan.”

Senator Jennifer McEwen, DFL-Duluth
“Healthcare justice is a major factor in establishing racial and economic equity for our state. When it comes to healthcare outcomes, there are unacceptable disparities between BIPOC Minnesotans and their white peers. Under our current employment-based healthcare system, working people are often left behind due to poor coverage and high out-of-pocket expenses.”

Senator Omar Fateh, DFL – Minneapolis
“Affordable and accessible healthcare is one of the most pressing issues facing Minnesotans today. We must come together to create comprehensive solutions which can address the entirety of the problem. I am proud to be a co-chair of this caucus and I look forward to using my experience in healthcare to ensure we pursue the most effective policies possible.”

Rep. Liz Boldon, DFL – Rochester
